How to investigate males infertility

When a grown-up man is unable to impregnate a fertile woman despite regular sexual intercourse with the female, is considered to be infertile.

In medical laboratory that are investigations that are carried out in order to investigate a male infertility.

1. Semen analysis

One of the basic method of investigating male infertility is to perform semen analysis.

This method involves the investigations of how fertile and viable the semenn of a man is.

2. Measure plasma testosterone luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) concentration.

Interpretations of LH and FSH constitution.

a. Low testosterone and raised LH concentrations indicate leydig cell failure.

b. A low testosterone with low LH concentrations suggest hypothalamic or pituitary disease.

c. Erase concentration of FSH usually with oligospermia indicates failure of seminiferous tubules. Testosterone concentrations may be normal.

d. A low FSH level with oligospermia is suggestive of pituitary or hypothalamic disease.

3. Measure plasma prolactin level

a. A significantly raised plasma prolactin is indicative of a pituitary disorder.

4. Perform combined pituitary stimulation test, if necessary
